Achuthan Namboothiri (Akkiththam)

Hearty Welcome to Shri "Akkiththam" to the pages of Modern Kerala literary pages hosted by Kerala’s  best Internet Gateway . Achuthan Namboothiri is the full name of the famous Malayalam poet with the penname "Akkiththam". Born in the Kumaranalloor village in Palakkad district, on March 3rd 1926, his childhood interests were painting and music. From the age of eight he developed interest in writing poetry. That was one of the significant turning points in the life of "Akkiththam".

His selective creative works (in Malayalam) include:

3.       Irupathaam Noottantinte Ithihaasam

4.       Maanasa pooja

5.       Manoratham

6.       Itinju Polinja Lokam

7.       Aalangaattamma

      9.      Samanvayaththinte Aakaasam

Major Awards:

       1.      Sahitay Academy Award in 1972 for   Balidarsanam.

       2.      The Otakkuzhal Award  from Guruvayoorappan trust  in 1975 for   Nimisha kshetram.

       3.      Vallaththol Award in 1997.

Honorary Degrees :

       1.      'Sahitya Nipunan'  from Thrippuniththura Sanskrit College

       2.      'Sahitya Ratnam' from Pattambi Sanskrit College

       3.      'Senior Fellowship'  from Central Education Dept.

Respectable Positions Held:

       1.      Publisher of Monthly magazine "Unni Namboothiri"

       2.      Co- editor of monthlies " Yogakshemam" and  "Mangalodayam"

       3.      President  of  Ponnani  Kendrakala Samithi

       4.      Editor of  Thrissoor   and  Kozhikode  Akasavani

       5.      Vice President : Kerala Sahitya Academi

       6.      Vice President : Changambuzha Smaraka Samiti

       7.      Vice President: National Cultural Samiti - "Agra"
