Situated at the confluence of three mountain streams namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala, Munnar is encircled by wooded hills of the Anamalai Ranges, with the peak of Anamudi towering 2695mts above sea level, and which happens to be the highest peak in south India.

This small hilly town with a cool breeze and scenic landscape is ideal for a weekend getaway with family or friends. Munnar was developed into a major tea plantation destination during British rule, with the inhabitants then consisting of main laborers working in the plantations. Besides a few colonial type bungalows built by the British that still exist in Munnar, travelers to this town can find plenty of accommodation by way of resorts, villas, hotels, and homestays suited for their purpose.

Munnar is a trekker’s paradise too. The high ranges of Munnar were earlier known as Kannan Devan Hills. The main cultivation crops in this hill station are Tea and Coffee. Munnar is also known for being the spice center of Kerala. Over twelve varieties of spices including ginger, garlic, cardamom, vanilla, pepper, cinnamon, coffee, tea, clove, and nutmeg are cultivated in Munnar and its neighboring villages.

As for tourist-friendly destinations in and around Munnar, there is the exotic and pristine Marayoor where beauty meets adventure and history. Nature manifests itself through the waterfalls, wildlife and stretches of sandalwood trees the place is famous for. Marayoor is also popular for its historic caves or ‘muniyaras’ dating back to several centuries.
