Biju Menon – The Genuine Actor

There is only one actor after superstar Mammootty in the Malayalam movie industry, who has been well noticed with his tough voice. He is romantic, daring, subtle, natural and apart from all these, he is genuine in his acting. He is none other than Biju Menon, who always has a very prominent place in the Malayalam movie industry…

When we observe closely the career graph of Biju Menon, we will find it as quite interesting. In his early days, he was casted as a hero, then he moved on to side roles, then character roles, as romantic hero, action roles and then to comedy roles. He never allowed him to get typecasted and never gave time for the audience to get bored with his acting.

Biju Menon is the youngest son of Madathiparambil P N Balarishna Pillai and Malathiyamma Menon. His acting career started with serials like ‘Ningalude Swantham Chanthu’ and ‘Mikhayalinte Santhathikal’. His first movie ‘Puthran’ got released in the year 1995. But, his real break was the movie ‘Mannar Mathayi Speaking’ and his role as the villain ‘Mahendra Varma’ in it. The movie directed by Mani C Kappan, got released in the year 1995.

Biju was very comfortable in his side roles too. His combination with Jayaram did magic in the theatres. They worked together in the movies like Adyathe Kanmani, Dilliwala Rajakumaran, Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu, Sneham, Chitrashalabham, Millenium Stars etc. The movie ‘Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu’ was one of the milestones in his career. Though Jayaram was the hero in the movie, Biju’s role as ‘Akhilachandran’ will always remain as a pain in our heart. He won the Kerala State Award for Second Best Actor for his performance in this movie.

Biju was quite lucky to work with almost all great directors of the Malayalam movie industry. He had a good on-screen chemistry with actress Manju Warrier. He joined with her in movies like Ee Puzhayum Kadannu, Dilliwala Rajakumaran, Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu, Innalakallilate, Kaliyattam, Pranayavarnangal, Pathram, and Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu. In most of her films Biju became a part. Among this, the negative role of ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu’, done by him was amazing.

After 2000, Biju Menon enacted in many good projects as a hero as well as in side roles. No one can forget the depressed and alcoholic husband of Radha (Kavya Madhavan) in ‘Chandranudhikunna Dhikkil’. The movie lovers loved him for his innocent performance in this movie. Another specialty of the movie was that, he shared screen with Samyuktha Varma for the first time in this movie. Samyuktha and Biju later became the best on-screen and off-screen pairs.

The movies with ‘Samyuktha Varma’ were some of the gems in Biju’s acting career. They paired in movies like Lenin Rajendran’s ‘Mazha’, Kamal’s movies like ‘Madhuranombarakattu’ and ‘Meghamalhar’. With good performances of the lead actors along with a good story and direction, all these movies were well received by the industry. All these movies were also noticed by the amazing songs in it.

Biju had a tremendous change from character roles to action hero later in his career. The movies like Shivam, Onnaman, Praja, Ivar etc showcased him as an action hero. But he always tried not to do the same roles. Along with enacting in action oriented movies, he also got indulged with subject oriented movies like Anyar, Perumazhakalam, Soumyam and also comedy flicks like Rasikan, Chanthupottu etc.

The 2010 release ‘T D Dasan Std VI B’ was another milestone in the acting career of Biju Menon.  The movie directed by Mohan Raghavan was critically well acclaimed. The character ‘Nandakumar’ played by Biju, bought lots of fame for him, along with the Kerala State Award for Second Best Actor. The particular movie was the first and the last movie of Mohan Raghavan, as he passed away in 2011, leaving the whole movie industry in deep sorrow.

Biju Menon is now one of the most wanted actors in the movie industry. With the movies Ordinary, Seniors, Mallu Singh, Romans etc, Biju proved that he can handle comedy roles very smoothly and naturally. His combination with Kunchacko Boban was highly praised. They enacted together in movies like Seniors, Mallu Singh, Ordinary, Romans, 101 Weddings, 3 Dots etc. Along with Malayalam movies, he had also tried his luck in Tamil and Telugu film industry.

Biju Menon had a long journey of success. Molding himself to get fit with the new trends and new ways of acting is the success of this actor. Biju Menon is married to Samyuktha Varma and they have a son Daksh Dharmik. His upcoming movies are Bhaiyya Bhaiyya, Vellimoonga etc.
