            Kannur

            Thodikalam Temple
            34 kms Southeast of Kannur, located 2 kms from Kannavam on the Thalasseri-Mananthavady road, this temple is famous for its mural paintings. It s believed to have been constructed with the Pazhassi Raja family of Kottayam.

            Trichambaram Temple
            20 kms from Kannur, near Taliparamba town on the national highway is a scared place of the Vaishanava cult, the deity of the temple is Sree Krishna. The annual temple festival, usually held in March, is a colorful event.

            Cherukunnu
            Famous for its Anna Poorneswari Temple, the weeklong annual festival falls in April. There is a Kathakali Panchavadya school called Ashtikalaya near the temple

            Dharmadam Island
            About 3 kms from Thalassery lays the small island of 'Dharmadam'. This tiny 5-acre island is covered with coconut palms and green bushes, which is a beautiful sight from the beach. A bus ride from Thalassery will take one to the place of destination but permission is required to enter this privately owned island. This place was earlier known as Dharmattanam, getting its name from the popular belief that it was a Buddhist monastery earlier, as Buddha's images are said to been excavated from this place.

            Kottiyoor
            There is a famous Siva Temple here, on the banks of the River Bavali. During the month of May or June, lakhs of devotees attend the annual festival that lasts for 27 days.

            Madayi Para (Sacred Town)
            28 kms from Kannur, the Madayi Kavu Temple, the Vadukunnu Temple and the 7th century mosque built by Malik bin Dinar make this a sacred town. The mosque is built of white marble brought from Arabia. There is also a wonderful fort at Madayi, which was built by Tipu Sultan of Mysore, the view from fort is fascinating, close by is the Madayi beach which is also splendid.

            Sree Muthappan Temple
            At Parassinikadavu on the banks of the Valpatanam River, 18 kms from Kannur is the Sree Muthappan Temple dedicated to Lord Muthappan, believed to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. This is the only temple in Kerala where Theyyam, the ritual dance form of North Kerala is performed daily. The temple's non-conformist nature is also evident in the musical custom of offering dried fish and toddy to the deity. There is also a Kathakali club in the temple that arranges shows on request. The performances begins after 6.00 p.m. and lasts for 2 1/2 hrs. Also near the temple is the Parassinikadavu snake park.

            Sree Ramaswamy Temple
            23 kms from Kannur, the temple dedicated to Sri Rama is one of the most prominent temples in Malabar. The exquisite carvings in the temple are nearly 400 years ago.

            Taliparamba (Siva Temple)
            This small town is famous for spices trade. Near the taluk Headquarters is the Taliparamba Siva Temple. The District Agricultural form at Karimbam is famous for the different varieties of mango cultivation and the Panniyoor Pepper Research Station nearby is 20 kms from here.

            Taliparambu (Vishnu Temple)
            The Thiruchambaram Vishnu Temple at Taliparambu is an example of medieval temple architecture. Said to be built date back in the 10th century, this temple offers sights of stonewall murals and woodcraft work.
