Portugese governor of Kerala from 1506.
He is credited with expanding Portuguese power to the entire coast
of Kerala, Goa and Malacca in the east by force of arms and shrewd
alliances. He was an able administrator and brought in a semblance
of law and order and sensible civil laws.
