Features
of Signs
Zodiacal signs
are the 12 divisions
of the apparent path
of Sun and Moon, which
intersect at two points
called Nodes (Rãhu
& Sikhi) where
the luminaries fall
on a straight line
of sight. Zodiac meaning
the heavenly "circle
of animals" or
the Wheel of Time
is described in India
in terms of the above
nodes as "Kãla-sarpam"
meaning the Serpent
of Time i.e Rãhu-Sikhi
Cakram or cryptically
shortened as Rã-Si
Cakram. This mystic
wheel on the sky was
originally a discovery
of the Nãga-vamsis
who were practitioners
of Tantra and the
serpent symbolism
of time had its genesis
because the celestial
wheel of time was
designed to be an
exact replica of the
Tãntrik body
or the aroused Kundalini.
Nãga-vamsa
itself derived its
name from Kundalini
(Bhujangi) and Nãgaraja
was Lord Siva - the
personified Mula nakshatra
that marked one of
the extremes as the
seat of Apãna
and Mrtyu at 240 degrees
on the cosmic circle.
Astronomy, astrology,
and the theories of
spiritualism had their
origins in the Nãga
clans of ancient world
which probably had
a universal presence
as is evident from
the cultural remains
found in different
parts of the world
like India, Egypt,
Mesopotamia, South
America and in many
other islands of the
far east. It was in
India their mystical
discipline got scientifically
formulated and a religious
tradition founded
on tantrik rationales
came into existence.
Genitals worship prevalent
all over India attests
this fact. We see
in the east on the
banks of Brahmaputra,
the Prãgjyotishapura
where Mahãkãli
or the Great Time
is worshipped as Yoni
and the nine grahas
of Jyoti(Kundalini)sãstra
worshipped as Linga.
On the west we see
at Prabhãsa
(also meaning the
luster of Kundalini)
the worship of Mahãkãla
as Linga while in
the south at Kãlahasti,
the Rãhu &
Sikhi are worshipped
as Linga - all arising
out of the basic rationale
of tãntrik
bio-cosmic rhythm
having Mula as reference
- Mulãdhãram.
Tãntrik bio-cosmic
rhythm was projected
onto the sky to create
Kãlapurusha
(Cosmic Man of Time)
with the aid of the
decimal and sexagesimal
notations. The 360-degree
orbit with Mula at
240 degree (Kunda
or naraka where apãna/mrtyu
resides) has 12 major
divisions known as
Rãsis or signs
having unique character
traits as given below.
|
| Aries
(14 April - 15 May) |
| |
|
Aries
is the head of Kãlapurusha
- individuals are
noted for their dynamism,
aggressiveness and
restless activity.
Likes to be independent
and ambitious to fly
higher and higher.
At times reckless
and defiant, Arians
like to be fiery leaders
and the center of
attention. On the
positive side you
are adventurous and
enterprising but lacks
diplomacy and prone
to impulsive action
when irritated. An
avid lover of sports
and games, noted equally
for enthusiasm and
lack of persistence,
changes his ground
very often.
You are by nature
pioneering but at
times jealousy may
be the source of your
drive and unbridled
ambition not supported
by a strong and delivering
horoscope may leave
you bruised and alone.
Mythical Abhimanyu
can be cited as typical
- like an impulsive
Yogi broke the Chakravyuha
- but failed to come
out being unsupported
by horoscope or by
reason of insufficient
Krama vis-à-vis
an untamed Kundalini.
To cite an example
of strong Aries individual
well known to Keralites
- None can be a better
description than Prof.
Sukumar Azhikkode,
teacher and great
scholar of Martian
expressions, enthusiasm
and temperaments.
|
| Taurus
(15 May - 15 June) |
| |
|
Taurus
ruled by Venus form
the neck of Kãlapurusha
and is also His house
of speech. Bulls are
affectionate, artistic
and steadfast in their
objectives with a
love for life - prefer
comfort and luxury
instead of the strain
of activity. Having
a keen eye for beauty
and elegance, romance
is a favored activity
unless it demands
serious distraction
from their vocation.
Imbibed with immense
talents especially
in music, painting
and other avenues
of fine arts, they
have the uncanny way
of catching the beauty
of the world and presenting
it under various frames.
Possessed of imagination,
initiative and originality
Venus dominant in
the horoscope reflect
poets & musicians
and Mercury adds intellect
to make mathematicians,
thinkers, experts
in dance-drama-music
etc.Bull is a good
soldier when influenced
by Mars and good Manager
and leader with a
dominant Saturn.
Onset of Monsoon is
generally marked by
the solar transit
of 420 (J2000) - first
pãda
of Rohini.
Mythical Krishna reflects
a detailed and accurate
portrayal of Taurus
- Krishna holding
the flute (Venus dominant),
wielding the Chakra
(Mars), Krishna of
the Gopikas and Radha
(Mars & Venus),
Krishna the Charioteer
and the expounder
of Gita (Mercury and
Jupiter dominant),
multiple talents made
him an astute player
in politics but as
time ran out destiny
caught him ultimately
through the curse
of Gandhari vis-à-vis
a seed of Karma that
bore fruit after growing
at its pace.
Famous Keralites having
dominant Taurus are:
1. Sri Takazhi Sivasankara
Pillai
2. Sri KPS Menon Sr.
3. Sri K. Karunakaran
|
| Gemini
(15 June - 17 July)
|
| |
|
Reputed
as the sign of intellectuals
- curious, cunning,
cautious, and calculative
- dramatic & versatile
- the shoulders of
the Cosmic Man produces
both geniuses and
frauds. Often very
handsome with bilious
disposition under
dominant Mercury/Jupiter,
invariably schizophrenic
(split personality)
but intellectually
adept in putting a
cover over selfishness
and jealousy. Mathematicians,
logicians and great
scientists have been
possessive of dominant
Gemini. With Venus
dominant it has produced
authors and musicians
too. Geminis are brisk
in their movements
and must be careful
in relying on what
they say about things
they are having an
interest. Geminis
can lie for their
sake but otherwise
the can be relied
upon for advice. Mercurial
and Venusian talents
meets with the most
appropriate mix as
Mercury owns Lagna
and Fourth, while
Venus rules creative
fifth house.
Summer solstice or
Greeshmakranti (mythical
Indra) is located
in this sign at 650-25'
- approaching Ardra
star in Mrgaseersha
nakshatra. 6th of
Mithuna is thus the
actual date of Indra
Mahotsava or the original
Onam celebrations.
A mythical personage
having the traits
of Gemini is Ganapati
who scripted the works
on the request of
Krishnadviapayana
Vyasa. Geminis have
good hearing and writing
skills and so he placed
the demand that the
dictation must be
uninterrupted but
Vyasa knew that the
Gemini understands
the things only over
a logic bridge and
so he placed the condition
that writing must
be with comprehension.
Well-known Geminis
include:
1. Albert Einstein,
greatest genius of
abstract thinking
2. Ramanujan, mathematical
genius
3. Morarji Desai,
shrewd politician
who had to quit in
the name of a "wrong"
list of supporters.
4. Malayatoor Ramakrishnan

| Cancer
(17 July - 17 August) |
| |
|
Crab
represents the cosmic
breasts and maternal
instincts. Moody like
the waxing and waning
Moon, fond of water
sports and liquid
foods, sensitive,
emotional, spiritual,
weak and allergic
- Cancer born are
very complex creatures
adapting themselves
to the dominant planetary
influences of the
Kendras which are
movable signs. Along
with Leo it represents
the life sustaining
breathing through
Ida and Pingala nãdis
and the strength of
Ida or the sign of
Cancer is critical
in the matter of longevity.
Ida represents the
serenity and coolness
of Moon and so is
Cancer born when the
Moon is well placed
and aspected. Can
be wavering, timid
and withdrawn to the
extent of being psychic
with adverse horoscope
features. With powerful
influence of planets,
Crabs can touch the
horizon with their
emotional craft fuelled
by imagination.
Most are heavily dependent
on intuition and seeking
the spiritual. Believe
in destiny and very
anxious about future.
Advice to Cancerians
is - Don't allow others
to take advantage
of your flexible,
patient, self-sacrificing,
hypersensitive nature.
When we look among
mythical characters
for an archetype of
Cancer, the Biblical
profile of Jesus meets
our eye. Cancer too
radiates the message
of love and sacrifice.
In the Mahabharata
we can find Gandhari
and Dhrtarashtra as
representing the signs
Cancer and Leo. Among
warriors we find Karna
as sharing many of
the features of a
dominant Crab - Salya
served as an instrument
in the hands of Krishna
to ruin Karna because
of his wavering nature.
Among famous personalities
we can find Jawaharlal
Nehru, Indira Gandhi
and many others -
Crabs have personality
of varied colors and
lacks sharp distinguishable
features. |
| Leo
(17 August - 17 September) |
| |
|
Leos
are born rulers and
leaders. They are
notable for strength
and courage and mostly
become the obvious
choice of the society
to bestow the scepter.
Proud and independent,
likes to ride over
others and are hated
for their ruthless
ambition. Leos can
be varied types as
noble as well as arrogant,
magnanimous as well
as selfish and all
seek authority. Gets
addicted to praise
and flattery, carry
the traits of Aries
in a more dignified
manner as is the difference
between a soldier
and a king. Unless
convinced of safety
the Leo seldom acts
but the Aries don't
care. Unless Aries
strong the Leo may
go for truce or retreat
when victory becomes
not so obvious or
defeat is likely.
Overbearing in attitudes,
egoistic, recognizes
competence and ignores
the rest with arrogance.
Some Leo born comes
to be hated for their
arrogance. Unless
possessed of a strong
horoscope, one becomes
a victim of their
ego and leads a life
of anger and dissatisfaction
leading to nervous
collapse. Possessed
of aesthetic sense
and a feel of grandeur
Leos make good administrators
and rulers.
Among mythical personages
Dhrtarashtra and Suyodhana
reflect negative Leonian
features while Arjuna
is a positive Leo
if his 'Viklabyam'
at Kurukshetra can
be ignored.
Well-known personalities
include Winston Churchill,
Chatrapati Sivaji,
Tzar Nicholas-II etc.
A notable Keralite
is Sri Narayana Guru
in whose case the
Leonian tendencies
got overshadowed by
spiritual inclinations.
|
| Virgo
(17 September - 17 October) |
| |
|
Virgo
born is scholar as
against the genius
born in Gemini. Virgo
is equipped to learn
and articulate, express
in different ways,
criticize and is in
short scholarship.
They can be good authors,
politicians and teachers.
Often found to be
bilious in physical
features, obsessed
with business, philosophy,
Mathematics, Management,
Data processing anything
of letters, books
and pictures. Excellent
analyzers with keen
perceptions, they
make criticism of
all who cannot maintain
order and becomes
a victim of one's
own ideality unknowingly.
Virgoans are very
sincere and methodical
but monotonous and
at times apparently
withdrawn from the
world to the extent
of being a psychic.
They are independent
and self-sufficient
but not easily satisfied
and averse to criticism.
Virgoans are dutiful
in marriage but shy
in romance. A social
being with good humor,
showing keen interest
in music and other
fine arts, becomes
famous if supported
by well placed Mercury,
Venus and Jupiter.
Mythical personages
whose profile match
Virgo are Krishna-dvaipayana
Vyasa himself who
compiled the first
book and employed
a writer for taking
dictation, authored
many scripts that
later on became great
shows on the big and
small screens, appointed
the first commentator
Sanjaya and could
not be seen anywhere
near Kurukshetra as
he disliked war -
these are all favorite
features/avenues of
the Virgo born.
In modern times, Dr.
S. Radhakrishnan,
Sri PV Narasimha Rao
etc were the famous
men of letters born
under Virgo.
|
| Libra
(17 October - 16 November) |
| |
|
Artistic,
independent, restless
and born leaders even
though may look as
timid in their childhood.
Men of practical mind,
strategy and great
efficiency may adopt
the most ruthless
and eccentric ways
to fulfill their ambitions.
Egoistic and relies
exclusively own their
judgment and many
becomes ultimately
gets doomed becoming
victims of ambition
an their judgments
that got colored by
ambitions. Aesthetic
in their approach
but easily addicted
to Martian and Saturnine
temperaments - all
the great leaders
like Little Corporal
Napoleon, Mahatma
Gandhi, Adolf Hitler,
Mussolini and actors/crowd
pullers like Charles
Chaplin, NT Ramarao,
Mohan Lal, Suresh
Gopi, Mammootty are
all Virgo dominant
as Lagna. Napoleon
for example had Libra
influenced by Leo
and he was not just
a soldier - he had
learnt the history
of war and strategies
in war since the time
of Alexander before
shaping his ambitious
plan and then waited
for the right hour.
Hitler on the other
hand was Libra guided
by Aries and the Martian
element gave him the
picture of an evil
in the eyes of the
world.
Librans are hardworking,
strategic in all their
adventures, pursue
their dreams with
great fervor and seldom
affords deflection
from the chosen path
even if it leads to
doom. Mythically Ravana
had a strong Libra
- since he saw the
Pushpak lying on his
mother's lap - he
never rested till
all that was wonderful
in the world came
in his possession.
He was great scholar,
great devotee of Siva
…

| Scorpio
(16 November - 16 December) |
| |
|
Scorpio
is the sign of occult,
libido, pursuit of
the mysterious - may
be all that the modern
mind set calls as
the dark side of a
human being. Scorpio
represents sex and
its mysteries - it
holds Muladharam and
Kundalini - the elixir
of immortality and
here begins the path
towards heaven and
hell, we meet Vaitarani
and Akasa Ganga too.
Scorpio in its crude
form may be a base
creature but when
the energies are rightly
utilized, the path
leads to the ultimate
bliss. Creativity,
intuition, secretiveness,
fortitude - all emotionally
directed towards achieving
the impossible is
the game that Scorpion
prefers. They are
selfish, not that
loyal to friends or
family because they
live not in their
worlds and they have
greater commitments
elsewhere. A Scorpio
cannot be more understood
than what he himself
speaks.
Possessed of Martian
fury, Scorpion can
be very stingy, cynical
or out of control.
They are revengeful
and dishonest unless
possessed of extraordinary
enlightened minds.
Mythical Dhrshtadyumna
and Panchali born
of Yogagni represent
the spirit of Scorpio
- both ruthless in
their pursuits and
achieved their aims
with the support of
Yogesvara Krishna.

| Sagittarius
(17 December - 15 January) |
| |
|
Warlike
sign Sagittarius -
it's the Dhanu of
Siva - it's also personified
as Dhanvantari and
is a sign famous for
spiritual beings,
fiery leaders and
great warriors. People
are honest, sincere,
fuelled with idealism
and ambition - carry
the good streaks of
both Aries and Leo
- adventure, courage,
aesthetic sense, love
for elegance, patriotic,
generous, energetic
and lovers of sports
and combat. Good observers
with quick grasp,
vivid imagination
and good reasoning,
they make good intellectuals,
preachers, professors,
philanthropists etc.
Many of the Sagittarians
have a philosophical
inclination, many
are fond of religions
and the sign owns
some bigots of human
history. Mercury-Jupiter
and Saturn-Mars influences
decides the personality
of a Sagittarian.
In the world of myths
we can find Gangadatta
Bhishma as the ideal
representative of
Dhanu. Drona and his
son Asvatthama stand
forth as great warriors
and great teachers
but both carrying
the blemish of being
selfish. Veer Savarkar
and Swami Vivekananda
were also born with
dominant Sagittarius
influence. In Kerala,
Sri Kunjan Chattampi
Swami was a Sagittarius
dominant personality.
|
| Capricorn
(15 January - 14 February) |
| |
|
Knees
of the Kalapurusha
represent hardworking
men and women engrossed
in thoughtfulness.
They are of great
determination and
ambition for which
they adapt themselves
and even though prefer
to stand on their
knees and project
a tough outer appearance,
they willfully kneels
down if it matters
to the ambitions.
Practical minded with
well-balanced minds
and plans they have
a purpose attached
to all actions. Never
acting emotionally
even under provocation
the goat has its own
schemes for life and
is little affected
by the surrounding
world. A goat never
falls by his mistake
- it falls only by
the inscrutable destiny
that no body can stand.
Capricorn like travels,
fond of home and children
becomes nervous at
the sight of adversity.
Some goats feel insecure
unless they have very
good reasons to feel
safe. Make good friends,
but sometimes cold
and irritable, has
a love for life as
long as things move
as per his plans.
Mercury and Venus
decide the personality
of the natives - left
exclusively to Saturn
and Moon they becomes
recluses climbing
the distantant mountain
slopes without purpose.
Mao Se Tung, Fidel
Castro etc are known
to reflect strong
Capricorn influence
aided by strong Saturn
and Mars. Strong and
centrally placed Jupiter
can give good sportsmen
while Mercury promotes
journalists, businessmen
etc. From the mythical
world no body is coming
forward to represent
the goat. Pandu who
was chosen as the
King and succumbing
to fate after a successful
reign fits the sign
well.
|
| Aquarius
(14 February - 15 March) |
| |
|
Pot-bearer
is regarded as a mystic
sign. Inventive, stubborn,
reliable, sincere
etc are the adjectives
commonly applied to
describe the Aquarian
personality. Some
of them assume aristocratic
airs and becomes not
that sociable while
a few devote themselves
to society on altruistic
urges. Thoughtful
and gracious but possess
unreasonable jealousy
and gets hurt very
easily. Not that communicative,
seldom achieve a display
of their talents -
prefer alliances at
work to take care
of things other than
thinking and writing.
Aquarians make good
experimentalists,
scientists especially
altruistic medical
men and good surgeons.
Many are mystics and
philosophers seldom
noted by the words.
Aquarian masters are
not practical in the
colorful world of
the preceding 10 signs
and so less is the
less attention gained
them. Some of them
are so obstinate as
to stack old theories
and obsolete thinking
and go on selling
them for the sake
of it - to maintain
the last flicker of
his false Aquarian
ego. In the world
of myths Vidura was
probably an Aquarian
- idealism was his
forte, which had no
takers and ultimately
his neeti was not
heard and war did
the job of dispensing
justice.

| Pisces:
(15 March - 14 April)
|
| |
|
12th
sign, the feet of
time, symbol is the
fishes biting the
tails - Ida and Pingala
breaths - or say,
the equilibrium of
Prana and Apana that
sustains life in a
human body. This is
the most meaningful
symbol on the circle
of animals owned by
the Serpent. Pisceans
are moody, daydreamers,
of wild imgination,
wavy like the sea
that responds to every
breeze and yet unaffected
by the fiery sun above
it for 365 days. Pisces
is the true sign of
spirituality - either
one becomes truly
spiritual or leads
the life of a psychic
- means - with extraordinary
emotions, anxieties,
fears, unrealistic
ambitions, passion
for all the rosy things
of the world. Honest
to the extent of self-sacrificing
and with strong planetary
support the emotional
bottle can shake the
world through the
means that becomes
handy. Cool and calm
but prone to wild
temper if hurt beyond
limits, child like
in love and care,
Pisceans love the
world but always in
conflict with their
vision that tries
to raise them up.
They are great devotees
and loves pilgrimages,
travels and watery
places. Creative always
and shares with nature
the music of its various
rhythms. Many influenced
by Pisceans are astrologers
and occultists having
world of their own
within the circular
belt of Serpent.
In mythology, Bhargava
Rama who exhibited
a split personality
of being the great
devotee of Siva and
also a warrior committed
to his ego, can be
mentioned as representing
the Fishes. Wellknown
personalities of India
- Sri TN Seshan, Dr.
MN Saha etc were Pisceans.
